Yamaha SZ150 commuter motorcycle 2010

Yamaha India showcased a commuter motorcycle called the SZ150, that looked like the Yamaha Gladiator 125s elder sibling. Now, Yamaha India is all set to give the SZ150 commuter motorcycle a February, 2010 launch. The Yamaha SZ will feature a de-tuned 150cc engine, one with the intention of has been lifted straight from the FZ16/Fazer.

The styling takes a conservative stance that is aimed primarily at the motorcycle commuter market. Gone are the rakish, sexy lines of the FZ16 which instead gets toned down quite a bit to give the SZ all round appeal. Though not oh-so-sexy, the SZ150 looks smart and natty. To position the SZ as a super person along for the ride for a low price, Yamaha has cut a lot of corners on the SZ150 with the monoshock suspension of the FZ replaced by dual shock absorbers and the front disc brake being ditched for drums on both wheels. That said, we hope that Yamaha at least offers the front disc as an option. The Yamaha SZ150 is being mainly positioned to acquire on the Suzuki GS150R and the Honda Unicorn and to do just this, Yamaha India aims to launch the SZ150 at an on road of price of INR 60,000. At that price and the traditionally great quality from Yamaha’s, we feel that the SZ150 will not just eat the Unicorn/GS150R, it might also give the lower capacity Bajaj Pulsar 135 sleepless nights.
